how to worm a large flock

I have 35 birds and cannot give each individual oral meds for 5 days. what can I give a large flock for maintenance worming?

It is possible, but try using Valbazen which is given 1/2 ml orally for an average size chicken once and repeated in 10 days. That is what I use. I once had 60 chickens, and I wormed them that way. If it was too difficult, I divided the groups, and wormed the blond ones one day, the black ones another day, the red ones another, and the bantams another day. I would try to get your vet to do a fecal float on some droppings to see if you have a worm problem, and what types of worms. Depending on your climate, that will determine how often you would possibly need to worm. There is a product called Wormout Gel which I once used on my flock which goes in the water. You never know how much the chickens are drinking or if they are getting enough.

I sympathize with your situation. I only have 22 chickens and had to individually deworm them earlier this winter, with the Bantams getting about a half cc and the big rooster about 2 cc's. Fortunately, mine live in multiple small groups in separate coops.

Even at that, by the second or third day, most of the birds were scurrying into the far corners of their coops as fast as they could to avoid me. By Day 10, I had to administer another individual dose, and they all remembered they despised me.

I have previously used a prescription dewormer that goes into their water. I had two problems with that: I don't know that each bird drank enough of the water to get a full dose of medicine, and at this time of year, the water freezes too quickly.

Now you know why I prefer Valbazen instead of Safeguard.
Dose once with Valbazen, then once more in 10-14 days. Done.

There's nothing saying that you have to worm all your birds at once. You have options, for example; Worm half your flock one day, the other half the next day. You can use a black magic marker and boldly mark the combs of birds you wormed the first day. Unmarked birds will be wormed the next day. Then 10 days later, reworm the marked birds, then the unmarked birds the next day. Done.

You can worm birds by breed if you wish, or by coop. An example:
The first day worm all your BR's and RIR's.
The second day worm all your BO's and EE's.
The third day worm your mixes and roosters.
However, you see fit. Just be sure to remember the sequence when you reworm them

Worm your birds early in the morning while it's still dark before sunrise. They will be easier to worm orally. Just snatch one off the roost and worm her and release her and grab another. Easy peasy.
