Some how one of my smaller chicks got in with the older birds and they beat her up pretty good before I found her. How should I wrap her wing and how long should I keep her inside so the other little one don't peck at her wound. I feel so horrible that I'm ready to give up on the older birds because they will not accept the new batch.

Fortunately chickens usually heal well from flesh wounds! I would clean and disinfect with chlorhexidine regularly rather than wrapping, which can cause entanglement and keep her out of beak's reach of the other chickens until it dries up and looks less tempting for them to pick at. You may be able to reintegrate sooner by applying a product like Rooster Booster Pick-no-more to discourage picking at the wound.

When integrating new pullets, I've found it helpful to have lots of visual barriers in the run so they can all coexist in the same area without seeing each other. My run isn't enormous but it has several shrubs and logs so the newer and smaller girls have lots of hiding places.

One more thing: I suspect this wound will heal well and quickly, but it's always important to keep a close eye out for signs of infection and to take quick action when infection is noted. I give my chickens antibiotics if necessary.

Thank you. I'm heading to that stuff now.

I really like the log idea. I think I will have to go hunting for one. Sort of speak
