My signature pretty much says it; "Retired and living the dream -- silkie chickens."

I have seven old chickens, seven 4-month-old fancies, and five that are 5 weeks old in a brooder in the living room that I haul out to the pen every morning. When I'm done with all of them, I feed the two parrots, 3 cats, two dogs, and the chinchilla. Of course, there's conversations going on with all of them. Hubby's at work, so it's just me and them all day. What could go wrong?

My youngest girls have started laying, and for the first time, five of the six produced on the same day.

Best news: I wanted to fill my propane tank before all the farmers started drying crops and the price skyrockets. I checked the gauge -- 60 percent. That can't be right; it should be almost empty, my brain said. So, I called the propane company. I was told that when they came out in February -- to repair a leak caused by them when they hauled off the 1,000 gallon tank to repaint it -- I received 120 gallons of unbilled-for propane. Free fuel!!
