I'm having a hard time regulating my brooder to 95-100 degree for my sebright bantam babies. I just got them today. The therm under the liamp is reading over 100 deg but the chicks aren't panting or staying away from the lamp. They are actually sleeping right at the rim of the lamp on the floor, active, eating and drinking. Just wondering if they would show if they were too warm or not like panting or staying on the cool side at such a young age.

I have seven 4 week old banties. Just make sure that they have room in the brooder to get away from the heat. Actually, my temperature directly under the light was always high. I just made sure that only about half of their brooder was under the light so they could pick where they wanted to be. Just watch how they are acting. If they are eating, drinking, etc...they are probably fine! Good luck! These are my first babies and there is a lot to worry about, but before you know it, they will be big chicks!!

If they're too hot they'll get as far away from the light as possible and hold their wings out to the sides to try and cool off. As long as they can get away from the light if they want to you don't have too much to worry about.

Okay, well none of them are doing that. They are all sleeping now and they are near the light so I guess they are not hot. They do have room to get to the other side of the brooder where there is no heat lamp so I guess I'm doing it right so far. I've had a hard time breaking away from staring at their every move today ha ha! I'm in love!
