How will I know when my roos have completed puberty?

I'm pretty sure I have 4 roos out of my 11 chicks. I want to keep the one who is quietest and least human aggressive, but my understanding is that you can't really be sure what their personality will be until they've completed puberty. How will I know when my roosters are all done with puberty and their personalities are (more or less) set?

Maturity varies from breed to breed and from individual to individual within a breed. Observe your cockerels daily and if/when aggression appears cull that individual. Understand that sometimes when an aggressive bird is removed a lower ranked bird may start to exhibit his true personality. Good luck in making your decisions.

I'd say you'd have to give it a good 6 months at the very least. In my opinion I wouldn't consider them out of puberty until they're big, crowing, and have all of their rooster saddles and hackle feathers. They should also be mating the pullets. If you're not seeing them mate any of your girls then you know they're not sexually mature yet

I agree with the above posts. I have 1 roo that took off around 5 months. He is a Red Sex Link and thinks that he is in charge of everything even though all of my roos are in different pens. I have 2, a Barred Rock and an Americuana that started around 7 months and a Australorp that is 9 months and if I wasn't sure that he was a roo, I would swear that he was a hen. I saw him try to cover a hen yesterday, thank goodness, but he is still not crowing..
