how would you vent and insulate this coop for the winter?

jdellarocco, Depends on where you are, how the weather is, if your coop is not filled with the ammonia smell of the chicken poo.
We have our light on a timer so it comes on for two hrs in the am, shuts off then comes on for two hrs at night. So they get darkness from 8pm - 7am.
I have to keep the coop cleaned up at least somewhat because of the amonia smell. If it is nasty smelling to you then it may cause sinus and respiratory problems with them.
If it is warm outside yet where you are then maybe they like it better in the run. Hopefully both the coop and the run are predator proofed well.
You may want to make sure there is nothing in the coop that is after them, bad for them or scaring them. One of those reasons may be why they dont want to go in.
You may want to do a search about chickens not wanting to go in the coop at nite, you will get lots of threads. You also may want to post your own thread because if you do it under someone elses it may not get seen. HI
