I plan to integrate 5 or more pullets into a flock of 2 BA hens, not quite a year old. what would be the earliest I should try this? I am planning to give them a small area in the run with food and water where the hens cannot get into in case they need a break. how old do they need to be for this to work well?

I have put mine in with older chickens as soon as they are big enough they cant squeeze through the fencing. I just always make sure they have some hidey holes to escape to if the older hens are being bullies. I haven't had any problems so far. I just recently put three 4 week old chicks in a tractor with 2 silkies and a red star. I think the higher the ratio of little ones to big ones the easier it is. Safety in numbers kind of thing.

I'd recommend waiting until both groups of birds are about the same size. That way if the introduction doesn't go well nobody gets too badly injured. Good luck.
