I have just started raising chickens after raising canaries. Living in the high desert of Calif.
We started off incubating our eggs and have raised some20 chicks from eggs. Just recently I got some chicks from a hatchery and about half were dead on arrival.
Needless to say I was very sad and disappointed. Now I've lost about 7 more and some of my raised chicks are dying. I put them on sulmet. Some have had pasty rears.
They are under infra red heat lamps, pine shavings and fed on chick starter mash. What could be the problem?
