I've been reading BYC for years for great info and decided it's time to join!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We started with 2 White Leghorn hens 15 years ago, and got our first ducks (1Pekin, 1 Rouen) three years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
One chicken, 6 adult ducks, 8 ducklings
(3) What breeds do you have?
Red Star hen and Pekin, Rouen, Domestic Mallard ducks
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
When my kids were little, chickens got them outside and gave them responsibilities. Now that they're grown/almost grown, it's more about eggs and the enjoyment of watching them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
hiking, rabbit care, dog training
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My kids are about to fly the coop!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC years ago and found lots of good info, but with a zillion animals and small kids was too busy to participate in many groups. Now my ducks are raising brood after brood and I want to find good, knowledgeable homes for the babies when they're ready to go. I also want to keep learning more about chicken and duck care for the birds I plan to keep.
