Howdy from central florida!

Howdy
Greeting from Central Florida! The wife and I have had dreams of owning a small flock for almost 10 years now but sadly lived in an area that didn't permit it. We have since moved and have decided it was finally time! We currently have 2 rainbows from TSC (about 6 weeks old) and are finishing up building their new home.View attachment 4093767View attachment 4093768
Howdy neighbor! Welcome :frow

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Do you have the wall under the run roof (once you put a solid covering over it) completely open and covered with HC? If not, I would strongly suggest that to make your coop more open air so it doesn't get so hot in there.
Ooo good suggestion! I just cut in ventilation above the nesting boxes, on the wall in the run, and on the back wall. If we find we need more, I'll probably go with your suggestion. Shielding that wall from rain shouldn't be too difficult should we need to open it more. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Congratulations on your new flock.
If you're looking for input on color - I like the bluish grey one in the middle 😊
Good thing the coop is under a tree, shade is an absolute must here in FL. Open air runs work best. Have a tarp handy for wind control. It looks like you have a privacy fence but don't think critters can't get in so have an apron around the bottom of the run all the way around - extending at least 6" to prevent anything from digging in.

That's the color we ended up choosing! Just got the second coat on last night. It looks really nice! Predator skirt has been installed! The prevailing breeze usually blows across the coop from nest boxes to run.

I'm really glad we didn't end up going with our first plan because it would've put everything right in the sun for most of the day. The coop doesn't get direct sunlight until about 5pm. I saw a YouTube video where they installed misters in their run due to the FL heat. Is that something common or someone just trying something?
