Hi All,
I've been reading various topics here since we seriously started planning to get chickens back in March, and figured now that I have my fluffballs with feet, it was time to introduce myself.
I've wanted chickens since moving to Dripping Springs, but getting hubby to build me a coop just never happened. In March, we had to build an outdoor release cage for an orphaned baby squirrel we had rescued last October, and the materials involved in making a safe cage (even something 'temporary') was a decent investment in time and $$, so we decided to find a chicken coop that would work for the squirrel for an unknown amount of time, then when she was done with it, we'd get chickens.
Our 6 Easter Eggers hatched July 4th and arrived safe on July 7th. One never ate and even trying to feed her with an eye dropper, she wasn't interested, so did not make it :-( The other 5 are doing fantastic and growing like weeds! We were prepared for the fast growth as a few years back, we hatched 2 duck eggs that had been orphaned and successfully raised them to be released in a nearby pond with other ducks.
I've already found great information here and look forward to even more learning.
Gayle
