I'm Michelle...we moved from Big D to small town in East Texas. Purchased 10 acres of land, a few cows, some chickens and two Guineas. Enjoying "Green Acres" life!!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? - I'm VERY new to raising chickens ...so I purchased several books and constantly looking for information online. We purchased 6 hens, 1 rooster and 2 Guineas this Spring (March-April)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? - I have 6 hens and 2 Guineas. Just lost my young Rhode Island Red rooster a couple days ago. Not sure what happen to him just passed away.
(3) What breeds do you have? - I have 2 Plymouth Rock (the "Twins" Bea & Rose), 1 Rhode Island Red (Red), 1 ISA Brown (Brownie), 1 Barnevelder (Coco), 1 Easter Egger (Grey Lady) and two female Guineas - Lavender & Sprinkle
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? - They are so much fun to watch - different personalities. The Twins, Red and Guineas are my little shadows and love being in the garden with me
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? - Last year I started organic vegetable garden for the family and sell items at local Farmers Market occasionally. I also started canning fruits and veggies this year to share with family and friends. Next year or the following I hope to get a few milking goats.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. - We just retired and moved from city to the country. Our kids are grown, gone and have their own families ...so we have 5 "fur babies" now....Australian Shepherds
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
- I was Googling for "Chicken information" and found posts on your site that answered some of my questions.
