Greetings from the Plano, Tx area!
My family had poultry when I was very young, but not after our first move. The one exception was when, as pre-teens, my siblings and I each had a pet chicken of a different breed. Mine was a smallish Leghorn named Sweet Pea who loved to fall asleep in my arms.
Now that I am (much, too much) older, my husband and I were finally able to start a small flock when our city lifted the ban recently.
So far, we've had our three Australorps for one whole year! In that time, we've celebrated their first eggs, said farewell to their little kinsman cockerel whom we rehomed, and toughed it out through the fowl pox, as well as overbearing heat and even a blizzard. I hope we can continue staying healthy together.
I look forward to sharing what I've experienced so far, and learning even more from the seasoned members of BYC.
