So I am always reading things from BYC and decided I need to set up my own account. I'm pretty new to raising chickens and ducks. Last year I rescued two mallard ducklings. One was attacked by a dog when it was very little...she had a hole that went all the way through her cheek into her mouth. They both survived though and flew off on their own when they were ready. Although the mallards I had last year never really warmed up to me I enjoyed taking care of them so much that I bought 3 pekin ducklings this year. I'd say 2 of them are around 6 weeks and the other about 3-4 weeks (they didnt tell me exactly how old they were when I bought them). I'm having some trouble with one of the older ones, but I'll get to that in another thread. Like I said I'm pretty new to raising ducks and I'll take all the advice I can get! I look forward with chatting with you guys
Any info on what works best for houses, pools, ponds, keeping waterers and food cleaner is very welcome. Thanks!
Hi Hilary, nice to meet you. Is it possible to have it clean and neat where ducks have tread? I don't have ducks but, they are great fun to watch, and let others clean up after them. Have you visited the duck threads at "Other Backyard Poultry," forum above. The folks there may have suggestions that would be of use to you.
As far as keeping a clean area with ducks I would say no its not possible to keep it clean haha but I'm always open to hear how people have found it easier to keep with theirs.
