Howdy Y'all. Just getting back to having feathered friends. It's been almost 30 years since I have been able to get back to farming. Currently have 6 pullets (white leghorns or rocks), 4 RIR's (straight run) and one unknown as yet.
Lost several to raccoons but put down some horizontal fencing to stop digging until traps can do their job.
Lots of great info on BYC thank you for taking the time to share.
Pictures and profile to come in time.

Welcome to BYC. Raccoons are nasty, if they don't kill a bird it will have horrendous wounds just the same. They also like to reach through wire and bite off any body part they can snag.

I really hate them. They can dig, climb, jump down from tree branches, and open almost any latch a human can.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Sorry to hear of your losses!

We have coons here and they are always trying to get into the coop. Drives me crazy!

Here is a link to our breed and gender area if you are wanting to know the breed of your unknown chick https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this and here is a link on raccoons and how to prevent them https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raccoon-chicken-predators-how-to-protect-your-chickens-from-coons

Thanks all, more great info. We live in the real woods where coons and snakes are natural predators. I just have to be diligent. Our two dogs do a good job during the day, but protect the family at night.
It is all out war with the coons. Considerations are made with care regarding such as dog proof traps and poison. I have relocated many a coon but...... You know the story.

Welcome from a fellow Middle Georgian, so glad you have joined us.

We do have more than our fair share of predators here, that's why my hens live in confinement.

Good luck with the raccoon battle.
