This is our second attempt at chickens. The wife and I played with them the first time 20 years ago when we bought this farm outside Front Royal. This Spring she said she wanted a coop and a few hens. I just happened to driving by SS and saw some chicks so I picked up a dozen. Just like us....me to buy something before I was ready. For the next month the chicks stayed in the house but when the cage needed cleaning three times a day the wife insisted the coop be completed. So I would be needing a place to stay myself if I didn't complete, I went right to work. It started as a simple mobile coop similar to some of the tractor coops I saw online. After many sketches and plans later I came up with this. My wife has named all of the Hens Gracie so no one gets left out or called by the wrong name. There just a bunch of Rhode Island Reds crossed with Leghorns I believe. She's already been looking into other breeds so I'm sure I'll be back in the condo coop business by next Spring.
