Hi there...

My name is Cyndi, I'm from the South Texas area and I'm new to raising my own chickens, although my mom's family has owned them for years. It's in my blood I guess, ha!!!

So here we go...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Me, yes. My grandparents and uncle have been raising them since I was about 8 yo. I remember being 12 yo, in the 7th grade, running around his ranch, chasing the chicks and getting a black eye because I ran into one of the roost (a 2 X 4) that was sticking out of the coop. I fell straight back, had to go to school with a huge black eye.

I just got my chicks 4 weeks ago and learned not too have protruding roost.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

5 and getting 3 more tomorrow

(3) What breeds do you have?

The ones I have now are Americaunas, but I actually think at least one is an EE, oh well!!! The 3 I'm picking up tomorrow are marans, 2 blue coppers and 1 splash. Yay for blue, green and dark brown eggs!!!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Pinterest, I was searching for coops and BYC was on the link.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love to sew. I make soap, collect recipes (although I don't use them much), very interested in homesteading and starting off slowly but surely.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Let's see, God comes first in my life, by His grace, I'm married almost 14 years and we have 5 kiddos, 1 golden retriever, and now 5 chicks. I'm a SAHM, 2 are in traditional school, 1 is homeschooled, and the other 2 are too little to be in school. I'm a hairdresser by trade and a country girl living in a big city. Waiting to pay off our debt so we can buy our ranch, hopefully in a year!!!!

Greetings from Kansas, Cyndi, and
