Welcome to BYC. My husband and I live in SE Houston and have 7 Jersey Giant hens, 3 bantam hens (2 silkies and 1 cochin) and a bantam rooster who takes care of everyone. The JG's were little bullies when we first introduced the two groups but they've worked it out and now they seem to be fine all together. They are OK layers but not super, so I imagine you'll want other breeds unless you keep the bantams for hatching your eggs. We haven't done that yet but they keep trying! Between someone always being broody and the heat I'm down to 3 or 4 eggs most days.
