I've wanted to raise chickens for almost 15 years now. I incubated 4 back then with a tragic ending, and never attempted it again. This past year we moved to a small plot of land in the city, and I jumped into this whole "chicken project" with full force. I got 15 two day old chicks - 5 Americanas, 3 Buffs, 3 Barred Rocks, and 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes. They are 8 weeks old today, and I am celebrating a month-long, all-occupying "grand-opening" of the chicken coop and run, by joining BYC! This site has been SO resourceful during this project! I'm anxious to get my pictures up on the site. As a side note, I am SO grateful to my husband for spending COUNTLESS hours of building, AND listening to all my designing woes.
My avatar is a pix of me naming the chicks. Some (not chicken owners) think that's a bit crazy, but I think I'm in the company of folks who understand.
I'm probably spending too much time trying to figure out if I have some roos. They were all boxed up from the hatchery as pullets, but I'm really wondering.....
In the meantime, I can't get enough of sneeking out at night with a flashlight, seeing them all asleep in the new coop.
