My husband and I decided to get chickens instead of paying the clark people about ten years ago.

We got tired of the stink and how ucky we felt after they had been and sprayed. I have always had problem free chickies until now. We have four right now. Three were newly acquired a few months back and one is being a problem child which led us to BYC. My husband found the site. We are self empoyed. We own and opperate a machine shop on our twenty plus acres. The last few years we have had a garden. This year I would like to learn how to put some of the food up for winter. My husband worked for a bee keeper when he was younger so we just started with bees. They are arriving in april, enough for four hives. I love reading, scrapbooking and stamping and anything furry or feathered.

Welcome! I'm also in the CA foothills.

Did you post about your problem chickie in one of the other areas ? Lots of help here, I'm sure there will be answers for you.

I did and everyone seemed to think she needs more vit a or k. I then posted asking how to add it. Now I'm waiting on that one. Silly me I thought everything she needed was in her pellets, corn, house scraps and the property. Oh well, we live and learn. Now I just need to know how to get it in her.

from Wallace/Burson! Have you been to the poultry auction in Valley Springs on the first Sunday of every month? Great place to talk chicken!
