My name is Kimberley. Im new to wanting my own flock for fresh eggs!!! Starting from scratch so any tips are welcomed!!! I'm wanting pretty friendly hens that lay brown, green, blue or white eggs. Free range and coop at night. Thinking about 10 hens. Any tips on breeds and coop size. Coop must be easy to build or assemble! Thanks!!!

Hello from Ohio - you came to the right place, ask questions, look around, I'm sure someone can help.

I started out with Barred Rocks and they have been easy and fun, laying lots of brown eggs. With regards to coops, you're only limited by your imaginantion and wallet.

You really just need something to secure them at night and provide a quiet place to lay eggs. Check out the coop topics to find great ideas.
