Howdy from Upstate SC

:welcome:celebrate

I, too, have a late in life kiddo (I'm 47, kiddo just turned 8), with a 22 y/o kiddo that's out on her own. DH is soon to retire from the Army, so we FINALLY got our first home/homestead in the summer of 2016. 2.5 acres there abouts.

Thanks :)
What are you raising on your little farm :)

We have about 50 chickens at the moment of various breeds including ayam cemani, cream crested legbar, welbar, black copper marans, ameraucanas and silkies. We also have 13 turkeys, 3 muscovy ducks, 2 geese (both boys), 2 dogs, a rabbit, a cat and some fish lol. Eventually, we'd like at add a goat or two and possibly an Emu. What I'd realy love is to get a bit more land someday and raise some horses :)

It is great to have you here!

I am a 50-year-old mom to an 18-year-old, 10-year-old triplets and, a 9-year-old :)
We are moving on October 13 to a 5-acre farm. We want to raise brahma chicks & ayam cemani chicks. We want a couple of guinea and some goats, as well. We are moving from a suffocating suburban home & wish to learn as much as we can about being more self-sufficient.
And.....that's our little family and our farming plans :)

Welcome kershaw sc here

Welcome to byc!!!

Looks like everyone beat me to it lol

Congratulations!

@DeilaMiah congratulations to you guys as well! Also please tell your DH thank you for his service. :) My brother also served and we know it's not just a sacrifice on your DH's part. Time to make some roots. :)

How self sufficient are you hoping to be? We raise our own birds and also quail. We also process all of our own birds.

Be careful chickens are addicting and they are a gateway animal/livestock! Lol just a warning. :)

We started with ordering 5 pullets we are planning to be at about 60-70 birds for winter. Just do you know it grows fast. Lol make the coop big very big lol

Then just start on your second right away lol
