(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens as of May 2010. My first chicken experience was a joint adventure with a country friend (I'm a townie). We ordered 18 chicks and I carefully hand reared them so that they would be remarkably friendly. I then took them to my summer camp where about 400 children and adults got to hold and hug a chicken. Now they have relocated out to my friend's country home to be happy free-rangers.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I just got three chicks from the same friend's recent experiment with the incubator.
(3) What breeds do you have? What is the chicken word for mutt? I think it is the barred rock roo who did the deed, but there is no record of which hen laid the egg. My friend was not intentional in her breeding program.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google searches are wonderful. I'm on a greyhound forum, and so when I knew I was getting my "for keeps" chicks, I figured I'd join a chicken forum too.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Camping, crocheting, reading, learning new things.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My name is Martha. I chose WYOwhy as my username because it is my name on other forums, I am from Wyoming (WYO), and it asks a question I have asked myself many times: "why oh why do I ___?" I have two cats and a greyhound. The laws surrounding urban chickens in my town are ambiguous at best - so I'm hoping for generous interpretations.
