(1) New to chickens but trolling threads here and homestead sites for years. . Bought a house last year in southern Maryland with several acres, came with small prefab coop and two chickens (believe Marans). They were used to free range so let them. Lost one to a fox and the other to a young eagle.
Have 7 chickens now including a Batam rooster (Cluck Norris)(3). 2 Wyandottes and 1 buff Orpington (lost the other to an eagle today) and 3 Batam hens. Just enjoy watching them, they are so funny and entertaining. Love to see them come running for treats. Like Jurassic Park.
Found the site in a google search and have enjoyed reading for about ten years now. With the new place we can finally put the lessons leaned here to use. Guess I missed the one about eagles and hawks.
