Howdy Y'all!!

After having 'chickens on the brain' for so incredibly long, it's time...recently divorced while a brand new empty-nester...IT's MY TIME! so there... Now, I've just got to find out where to move, 1st consideration is where.
Where will be determined by where Backyard Chickens are allowed within 3 states, east TN mountains, west NC mountains or SW PA. If anyone in these regions wants to sound off on your area and whether it's chicken friendly or chicken discrimination is being practiced...I'd certainly appreciate it. It may be my age, but gathering this info has been confusing for me, could be the stress as well. Today is the first holiday I've ever spent alone, I thank you so very much for your wonderful website, I have read a number of posts from the sweetest, most fun people...ever!! Yippee!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community! Chickens sure are enjoyable to keep. They are so intelligent, they crave human attention and many of them make wonderful lap warmers! LOL

You might start by chatting in these states threads and ask around where the best place to reside and keep chickens might be.

You should visit the Learning Center - there are so many articles there to help you get started.

Here's link to the ordinances listings that may help you check on the locations that interest you: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/3/Laws

But if you decide on a place that doesn't allow chickens, consider house chickens - search the forums, there are so many folks who raise them inside.

Feel free to ask questions, we're here to help.

** If you have other interests, explore the hobbies or social forums - there's something for everyone here and so many friends to meet.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I am coming in late but, also would have recommended you post on the state threads to find favorable chicken areas. There is a great thread called

"people with house chickens." if you would consider that path.
