Hello everyone, I'm Tricia! I have a beautiful 1 year old daughter and a wonderful husband, and together we are trying to create the tiny farm of our dreams! We also just rescued a playful gray tabby kitten named Elton!

I am a newbie to BYC but have a flock of 6 gorgeous, spunky hens that I raised from peeps that are now 2 years old, and we just added a handsome rooster named Duke to the mix a few months ago.
Our hens (in pecking order):
1. Ducky is our very outspoken and curious Buff Orpington (with a totally endearing floppy comb) who is the ruler of the roost, no question about it! Always the first to snag any treats and first to raise her voice if she disapproves of something.
2. Mary Jane is one of 2 Barred Rocks we have, but she is spunky and second-in-command and has no problem letting the others know it.
3. Eleven is our gorgeous, very broody Australorp that is currently incubating our first ever "homegrown" chicks!
4. Mary Anne is our other Barred Rock and is quiet and content - that is, until there's any food involved!
5. Magnolia is allegedly a Ameraucana, but I'm not quite sure she's totally purebred because she lacks some of the characteristics. But we love her just the same, and while a bit shy, she is very sweet.
6. Belle is our purebred Ameraucana, complete with a little cowlick on the back of her head, beautiful golden and brown head feathers, and a peacomb. Poor Belle is the last in the pecking order, and is a bit skittish. I always make sure to slip her lots of treats when the others aren't looking though!
Duke, as previously mentioned, is our rooster who's a bit of a mutt but has amazing colors and a very distinct crow! He's quite the gentleman, and never does his business while we're around, preferring to woo the girls in the privacy of the nest boxes

We have one little peep so far out of 10 eggs, though we did lose 2 unfortunately. This is my first hatch so it's difficult to be patient and hope for the best, especially since our broody hen is the one hatching them and she doesn't have the best mothering instincts. We had to take Lil' Peep-Peep (as I'm affectionately calling him/her for the time being) away because she had never seen a chick before and started pecking it. At 4 days old, he/she is doing great and to combat loneliness while we wait for some siblings, I put a Beanie Baby bird into her box with her to snuggle with. (The other eggs are from about 4 days after so that's why they're spaced out.) Fingers crossed we'll get some more precious peeps soon!

Below are some pictures of Duke, Little Peep-Peep, and the girls:

Thanks for reading that novel I just wrote, haha! I'm so glad to join a community that cares about these amazing animal as much as I do and learn even more!
