I just started raising chickens about a month ago. I have wanted chickens for years and finally made the plunge this summer. I moved to 5 acres in the spring of 2020 (right in the middle of “2 weeks to stop the spread”) and intended to get chickens to go with our horses and goats but never got around to it. This spring (2022) I had a coworker offer me their old chicken coop and at the end of the school year (I am a teacher) I had another coworker offer me a hen and her chicks to start my flock, so I decided to start my chicken adventure. Due to some sad mishaps, I am down to that hen and only one of her chicks. I have really enjoyed the chickens so I am using them and my temporary coop to learn what I need and want so I can build a large coop to fit my needs and grow a big flock. One of my main reasons for joining here is to get coop ideas. I have a little side wood working gig so the idea of building a cool chicken coop has me excited.

Here’s a couple we have done. The first one we made for our first chickens. All new materials, second and third one all recycled materials. Just finishing up the the third.
