So i was surfin the internet and found a link to this and thought wow this is perfect. I have around 35 standard breed hens including buff orpingtons, barred rocks, black australorp, delaware, white leghorn, and a big beautiful buff orpington rooster. Thrown in the mix of the standards are some of my favorite my little banty's. 2 vary pretty mutts both hens, and a trio of dutch. Only have one standard rooster cause he thinks he is the man and doesnt like any other standard sized rooster. However he gets along great with my little dutch roo. They are inseperable. Makes for a good conversation among family memebers. They are weird, but they are my very beautiful boys. Anyway, the newest additions to the family will be arriving in May. Yes, more chickens. I must be crazy.
But will be adding brown leghorn, and cockoo marans to the standards, and buff brahamas to the bantams. Lovely chickens all of them.
Now onto the next category. DUCKS! Way shorter than the chicken category but over time hoping to make it longer. I have recently adopted/saved three baby ancona ducklings. SO CUTE! I have a passion for ducks but unfortunately still live with my parents who do not particularly like them. But for these babies they made an exception. Since i saved them from a most horrible situation where it would end with these adorible babies dying. I know it may sound really dramatic but it is the truth. But on a happier note they are now living with me in a very loving and healthy environment and are just as happy as can be.
Interesting how i said that my duck category would be shorter than my chickens when it was almost the same length. Im so to obsessed with my little darlings. Haha!
Next! The dogs. I know not birds but i love them anyway. We are now up to six. Our oldest a thirteen and a half years old pomeranian. Who by the way goes back and hunts frogs in our pond like she was a puppy. A 8 year old Black lab/irish setter/newfy mix. A almost 3 year old mutt of we think blue tick/black lab/and weird enough whippet. A 2 year old beagle/aussie. A new addition of a 4 month old shephard mix. And my little angel who belongs to me and only me a year and a half american eskimo. Who heards my chickens back to their coop at night and is mother hen to the ducklings.
Oh and i have like 10 barncats. Cant forget them. They are the protectors of my ever so cherised chicken eggs. Just today they, how can i put this nicely, made two little snakes disapear from the coop. Ah such lovely handy creatures, as well as adorable. My one female just had a litter of kittens. Yay more hunters to keep the snakes and mice away. But sadly this is her second and last litter. She is getting fixed in exactly one weeks time. Since her last litter of two years ago had a male. He fortunately is not the father but sure tried. She got pregnant by a random stray. Which are very comon out here in the country.
Well thats it. That is sadly the end of my little "farm". Hope this wasnt to long and/or boring for anyone to read. I just love talking about my animals. And i am so excited to be a part of this forum. I know i will have a hoot talkin about things.
