Hello, I have been looking high and low to find if I can keep chickens in the city of Howell MI. If anyone knows I would be very great full. I will be moving to the north side of downtown howell? Zoned residential.

HI from Howell MI!
:)
Sadly as of right now, chickens are NOT allowed in city limits... BUT... Just last night it was brought up AGAIN to the council and they moved to "look into it"... Before they just denied it... So there is hope! The mayor went on the record as being for allowing chickens....
There are those who already have chickens in town, but legally, if reported, they must remove them...
Howell is a great town to live in... WELCOME!!!

Hi Jeremiah242, and welcome to BYC.

Not sure if you know this, but there is a state-level Right to Farm law that protects anyone in Michigan who has a commercial farming operation who follows state-mandated good management practices.

Various court cases have asserted that "commercial" can be as simple as selling a few eggs, and meeting good management practices for small operations is also not difficult. This is not to say that this will be a simple path; if you'd like to know where things stand there is a great thread here on BYC:
