1-degree F with more than a foot of snow. Pretty normal for an Appalachian winter. Got enough of the roof cleaned off to let some light in and also cleaned off the solar panel because the sun's trying to shine. How's everyone else's flock and coop doing after these back-to-back winter storms?

Here in Wisconsin snow and cold are fairly normal, and we take it all in stride. That big storm went south of us. Maybe blame us for?

Wasn't a fan of the -50 wind chills we had, and the wind still has a bite to it, but the last few days chickens are coming out of the shed to sit in the sun on top of some hay. With the increased daylight I'm seeing the start of roosters fighting, and geese getting louder. We still have until April to go yet before we generally see any significant warm ups, but definitely warmer this week than last.

I like your coop. It looks cozy. :)

@NetherLeeFarm Sounds like you’re up Watauga County way?

Down here in Asheville, we wound up with 7” or so; also 7° this lovely morning.

Considering that our five girls are in a Nestera coop inside a partially-wrapped open air aviary, we’re doing pretty well. The girls don’t mind the temperature much, but they heartily dislike the wind and are deeply suspicious of the snow. They don’t seem to be fussing at each other.

We got some ice the previous Saturday and Sunday, but it quickly cleared. I’m loving the powdery snow this time!

Thanks! And yeah we're pretty much the same way with the cold, snow, and wind. No blame at all! Thankfully we don't get wind chills quite as cold as you do, but this is par for the course around here during the winter. If it wasn't for the news, we wouldn't know that there was a major winter storm ha!

No roosters, but I'm definitely loving the longer daylight hours. I'm able to notice it now. We will have some high 40-degree days this time of year with sunshine that makes it feel a lot warmer, but it never lasts. Around here, we don't plant the garden until after Mother's Day or later.

Yes, about a mile off the river and good for you! We've not been above freezing for more than a week now. All the parking lots and gravel roads are solid ice, including our driveway. Doesn't look like we'll be above freezing anytime soon either, but ice always thaws eventually.

Thanks for chiming in. Glad all is well with your ladies and your coop!
