Okay... reading the forums and looking at all the percentages of how many chicks survive, I am curious how my luck is going so far. I am ordering a lot of chicks from MM hatchery, but wanted to try some incubating as well... so here is what I did

I order online 4 bantam barnevelder chicken eggs. They all came in good condition. I put them in the new incubator that I bought and have had them going now for 6 days. Yesterday I candeled them for the first time and all 4 looked like the pictures posted on here with the vasculature and dark little black "eye" being visible.. I have been pretty happy so far, so I am curious if this is pretty rare to have all 4 doing good

Considering these things:

-Mail order
- First Time incubating

So far these results:

All 4 are looking great and growing along with the schedule.

So the main question is this... going forward, what our my odds that all will hatch, and what would be the guesses on how many should hatch?

Our very first hatch consisted of 9 shipped eggs and 3 of our own. Of those 9, 7 hatched. 1 was an early quitter and the other just never pipped. These were Serama and Silkie eggs and given that the hatch rate of those types of eggs after shipping is slim to none, I would say we did pretty darn good especially with damaged air sacs. Looking at our circumstances and outcome, I would say you can expect at least 3 of 4 to make it. Hopefully all 4 will but sometimes things happen and they stop developing so it's best to expect the worst and hope for the best. If this does happen it is for the better because something went wrong. Now, leave them alone until day 18!!! lol Good luck!
