Still need to add the run to the front of the henhouse - that'll be done this coming week.





The cabinet in there came from a childcare center going out of business - it's a book shelf kinda thing - the boxes are 12" x 12" x 12" - perfect! Those are tools in the boxes - early pics.



Here are the primary roosts - there's another one running from the right-hand top of the cabuinet to the top of the door. I've since added fresh straw to the floor, the shelves of the cabinet, and the nesting boxes. Also suspended the feed bucket with a cover over it, and moved the fountain to a spot about 2 feet from where it appears.

As soon as we get the run added, I'll add to the pics.

Well done! and a great job repurposing the cabinet. How many chickens are you going to be housing? They will pretty much all use the same 2-4 boxes for laying so you could use the top part as storage for grit and dust and whatever if you want to stick doors on it

Thanks! Working on 15 hens (6 9-week-olds, the remainder coming up on 3 weeks), which is why I need to add the run right quick, before they get into the 3-month old age range - it will come out 8' from the opening in front of the cabinet, and be 5' wide. I currently have 13 girls - lost 2 to the weather - put them in the henhouse then a cold front with very heavy winds and rain rolled in - two of the babies didn't make it!

Thinking about completely enclosing the lower portion for storage - but I'll need to add a back to the cabinet to do that, then block the access to the back of the cabinet...they run behind there and I'm concerned they'd get stuck. Add doors to the front....bingo! But you're right about the number of boxes, and that would be much easier! When I did this s few years ago, I had 11 hens, and they basically used just three of the 10 available boxes.
