HRLP - Bad Introduction???

I have had peafowl for almost a year now. I have 2 males and 2 females I raised from chicks and 2 females I bought that are about 1 year old. I have them all together and they have been doing well. I have always thought the White males were so beautiful and today I had the opportunity to buy one. Well.... he is 2 and a half years old and I put him in the pen and the others are chasing him everywhere! They are pecking very little, but they are all jumping up in the air and squaking...Is this normal or do I need to move him asap????

You need to put him in a pen next to them for a while so they can get use to each other, If they were mine i would wait till after breeding season to put them together because of the hormones flying around in the peacocks.

How big is your pen?

I love the white ones also they are so beautiful.
Do you have photos of them to share?, i have had a long day and some pretty photos would sure perk me up LOL

Thanks for the info. I could put him in a 12x12 covered dog pen next to the pen. Is that big enough? My pen is 150 feet by 50 feet 4 ft high fence with netting. (much of the netting 12 or so feet high). It is connected to the "pea house" which is 12x12 and 10 feet tall with a window and door for light and access. I have been wondering if this is enough room for 3 males and 6 females. I am getting a black shoulder hen and a purple hen in the next couple weeks.That will be a total of 9 birds in the pen. I want them to be happy and have plenty of space. My other "wonder" is what will I get when they start to breed???

Sound big enough to raise them but i think you may have to separate breeding pens when they are old enough.
Mine are not penned but i have seen one male knock another male off the hen when they were trying to mate so that may be a problem in a pen but there are others that keep their birds penned so they may have a better info on this kind of setup.
12 by 12 would be nice for the new pea

Thanks for the information. I have enough room to put up another big pen. We only have 3 neighbors on a 2 mile stretch of gravel. The last house is at the end of the 2 mile stretch. We had thought about free ranging, but do not want them to bother anyone. I was worried that we would not be able to find the hens if they went into the woods around us. We have 9 acres fenced in with the 4 foot fencing. (we fenced with the 1x2 inch coated wire with apron on bottom) but I am afraid they would fly out. I do not think I asked enough questions BEFORE purchasing. They are just so beautiful they are hard to resist

Yea they could hop rite over a 4 foot fence with one leep and a flap of the wings one time.
It must have taken a while to fence 9 acres and lots of blisters.

Went to move him and he is now on the root with the others. There was one tail feather and 2 wing feathers on the ground but they could have been loosened in the move yesterday. Should I leave him now that they have all calmed down? Also I have been reading a lot about feed. Could anyone tell me what I should be feeding? I fed game bird starter the first 6 months and gave greens and veggies. Now I feed a combination of game bird feed, triple clean cracked corn, chicken layer pellets and oats. I will also occasionally give them greens, grass clippings, fresh fruit and veggies. I want them to be as healthy and happy as possible.

Feed 20% if you can. If you feed 16% layer then add in some higher protein treats to balance it up a bit. Do not feed corn or scratch as the base feed. These are supplements and should be in lower quantity in the summer months. Best is if they look good and active then they are probably in good shape. Worm them quarterly or so with fenbendazole in the water at 3-5 mL per gallon in drinking water for at least 3 days. Give them a lift and check weight every once in a while. They should have some meat on the keel bone, but not be fat like a meat chicken. If there is only a bony feeling then there is some underlying problem. The 50x150 pen is plenty plenty big enough for the number of birds you have. Acclimate as stated in the dog kennel if needed. The birds were probably establishing a dominance thing and will work out the pecking order in a day or two. Keep an eye out to make sure they don't chase one to exhaustion. This does not happen usually in one day, but over time keeping them from food/water.
