My run is basically very large dog kennel panels. There is cement underneath with litter. I noticed that fire ants were coming through the cracks and was going to find a way to kill them. The chickens pecked into the cracks and loosened a piece of concrete and dug up the ants and ate them all. Is this unusual for them to attack fire ants?

NO!! I have an old round bale of hay in the pasture that is about half gone that got wet and nobody ate and the WHOLE THING is fireants. Well the chickens have been working on it for about 3 days now and have it down to nothing. I stood there and watched in amazement as they dug and scratched just like they were not standing in a pile of about 5 billion ants.

Wow...we have fire ant hills cropping up all over the place. I need to make a mini tractor, and then I can just keep moving the chickens from one anthill to the next!

This is neat. Ive never thought about it, but I guessed chickens wouldnt like fire ants. They seem to dislike the little piss-ants we have around here, so I just thought fire-ants would be off the menu.

Cool.

My hens don't eat ants. I think there are too many worms to eat first
