Well, I haven't done much research at all yet since it is far off anyhow.. so I REALLY appreciate all of the feedback!
I would want to do a heritage breed, that way I could raise them as well as breed and sell eggs if all went well.
I wouldn't do it unless we could build a nice strong safe enclosure, especially for night.
Not sure about local laws... would have to look into it.
He was thinking 40 birds... I'm thinking maybe a dozen tops.
He doesn't take care of the chooks, so he doesn't understands fully what it entails
Was thinking $50 a bird, fresh... they come pick them out, we butcher them and get them ready for pick up. (so much fun for me as this would most likely be MY job...LOL)
He claims he has people wanting a service like this...... honestly, next year I think I will get a trio and see if ANYONE shows up for them come fall
Family of 6... we can go through quite a few turkeys... we host at least 4 holidays a year with 2-3 turkeys (deepfried usually)
Oh, and to add... this will only happen once we move and I invest in a dog to live with the birds... Pyrenees is it? Or at least a couple more dogs to run the property with Halo at night and keep the nasties away, all though.... so far I haven;t had any predator problems. ::knock on wood::
