Hubby yelled at me for giving eggs

Quote:
Commercial eggs are candled with high powered equipment and any with blood spots or meat spots removed. Every once in awhile, one does get past the equipment. I've seen a blood spot in commercial eggs, though I haven't had any of those nasty anemic eggs in years.

i gave some eggs to my mother-in-law and she claimed they were nasty and gave her horrible diarreha. My hubby and I eat 2 to 3 of them a day and never have a problem. But the mum goes to the grocery and buys the eggs in a milk carton that has dioglyerides and hundreds of other words that I can't spell. But hey, our cats enjoy fresh scrambled and raw eggs on a daily basis, you should see their fur. shiniest kitties you have ever seen. I try to take it all in stride, the population today does not know where their food comes from. Gave some eggs to a young couple a while back, the girl told me they were dirty (I mentioned I had just gathered them and that she would need to wash them). She is a good friend, asked her if she knew that eggs came out of a chicken's butt. Freaked her out, said she couldn't eat an egg for weeks without the horrible thought of where an egg comes from. ha ha

I aint sticking up for your hubby by any means, (no need to be nasty about it he could of discussed nicely what the red was)
BUT two years ago when i started to keep my own hens, I got very worried about the blood spots, thinking it was something bad, I then found out it was all ok.. even tho i found it was safe, lots of people were asking for my eggs... so as i was selling them I paniced a bit thinking what if the eggs are bad and someone ends up in hospital via my eggs! lol ... two years later, nobody has suffered anything, and all same people have been having my eggs for 2 years

I will never cook anything with store bought eggs, cakes yorkshire puddings everything tastes so much better with our own eggs .....
I think its normal to be a bit worried about blood spots as you only see it in natrual living hens...

Make sure you get an apology off ur hubby!

My wife was a city girl when we met. She thought the same thing, that something was wrong with an egg with a blood spot or meat spot. She was going to throw it out because "That's Gross", I told her to just cook it and I'd eat those with the spots. After seeing me eat them for years with no harm, now she just cooks them and no one pays any attention to the spots.
I can see where it would freak out someone who wasn't used to farm eggs though.

I sell eggs at work for $2.00 a dozen to pay for their feed. I have more customers than eggs currently averaging 12 eggs a day from 25 layers.

When I happen to have a new customer, I ask if they have had farm fresh eggs before and I explain they may come across blood or meat spots which are totally normal and it does not mean the egg was fertilized. I have no complaints. Actually, the only complaint I get is when one of my customers have to buy eggs because I don't have any available.

thing that get me , lot of people will not eat a egg with a blood spot, bet they get alot more eating chicken ...yes i have got them from a store also, but store eggs are candle to remove them..
