Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Did you see anything? I wanted to go outside but my son (he's 8) was in Obnoxious Mode which triggered our Rottweiler puppy to go into Turbo Charge and to save my sanity I went to my bedroom to watch TV and promptly passed out. Left my DH to handle the bedtime squabbles. I must be getting old...can't take the chaos anymore lol

I did not see anything either, it was snowing so hard I couldn't even see the stars. : (
I did have some amusement today though by watching the chickens eat a leftover roast chicken. I know it's really not funny, but they need the protein this time of year and I was not going to make soup.

I had an entire flock of robins in my yard the other day. As I was standing out there, staring at them, perplexed, since they really shouldn't be here, the biggest bolt of lightening struck the mountain by my house and I was literally blinded for a few seconds, then the thunder crashed through the valley. Wow! Such odd weather. Our puppy broke so hard for the house I had to let go of the leash. Poor thing, she will never be the same.

Wow! Robins? It is way too early. Enjoying the reprieve from the bitter cold but I hate when it goes from rain back to cold. Hard on the rooster and hard to get straw dried out a bit. The chickens are loving the warm weather.

GOOD Morning~

No robins around but I counted 6 hawks hovering over the house Sunday as I was letting the chickens out to wander for a bit. The chickens stayed very close to the run and eventually decided to go back in so I closed the door. Not worth the risk. It's hard enough to protect them from my Rottweiler puppy. He's a little TOO enthusiastic when they're out and about.

I can't believe you had thunder and lightning JerseyHen. Wow!
You're in northern NJ right? I don't think I'm that far from you...didn't hear anything. I live in New Windsor.

It's supposed to get cold again this weekend but thankfully not in the single digits/negative wind chills again.
The weather has been unpredictable for sure. I don't usually mind Winter but it would be so nice if it stayed in the 40-50 deg. range wouldn't it?

My yard is full of deer poop and the mud is incredible..inches deep! I let the chickens out for a little while yesterday and they were drinking from the puddles. If this snow/thaw pattern keeps up, it'll be August before the everything dries up!

Yes, lots of lightening for about an hour or so. We are in the very northern tip of NJ, right by the PA and NY border. I think New Windsor is about 35 minutes from us. My DH works in Newburgh.

It is soooo wet in our yard. Our water table is really high anyway, but our basement sump has been going non-stop for about 2 weeks now. It is crazy. Looks like a moat all the way around our house. I just hope the pump can keep up, there is nothing worse than water in the basement in the winter.

Ahhh Newburgh...(that's all I've got! lol) I'm actually surprised we don't have a few inches of water in our basement right now. Then again, maybe we do...the Christmas storage boxes and our laundry might be hiding it (or floating). I'm afraid to look. I covered the floor of the run with an entire bail of hay before all that rain we had yesterday. I think the chickens would have sunk in the mud if I hadn't. I'll go out there to check on things after work today. It's not gonna be pretty.
