Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Oh no! What alittle jerk! Could you possibly pen him up by himself for alittle while? If he dosnt have a flock to protect he might calm down. No guarantees tho

Im thinking about cleaning out the coops, sense itll be warmer. I just dont want to have a huge mess in spring lol
I don't have a separate pen. Wish I did! He needs an attitude adjustment for sure. I was unloading groceries today and he came running up to me but didn't attack so maybe his boxers were in a bunch the other day? In his defense, I've had an ear ache all week and the day he jumped at me I had a scarf wrapped around my head to protect my ear from the wind. Maybe he didn't recognize me. But still...he gets feisty w/my son and daughter so I'm keeping an eye on him.

It was the perfect day to clean out the coops. Did you do it? I DREAD the mess I'm going to have come Spring.

Are you getting a lot of eggs? I have about 7 doz. in the refrigerator. I need to Google egg recipes! I'm all quiched out. DH had egg salad for lunch a few times this week and DS has been eating them hard-boiled for breakfast. I'd sell them but my job frowns upon employee business ventures. A big breakfast for us and all the chickens tomorrow for sure!

Oh my! I have three scars on the back of my leg from my roo. I figured out he only does it if we are slow handing out the treats, and never never turn your back on them.
Ouch charlie14 ! Did he peck or use his spurs? I quickly learned not to turn my back on him. I don't trust him at all anymore. He's so handsome but I'm starting to NOT like him!

I think he grabbed with his beak then spured me. It happened so fast I'm not exactly sure. I am just glad I had on jeans. It was a one time thing, but a lesson too.
I did clean out the coop today, and raked their yard. I had put the Christmas tree in there as windbreaker /entertainment thing for them. I dread dragging that out in the spring.

Idk what his problem is, some roosters just need to learn their place! It sounds like he is a sneaky Roo..wont attack enless your not looking, those tend to be the worst! If he gets you, he will most likely bite your calf and spur you. Just be on your guard and dont let him behind you when your feeding.
I didnt get to do the coop today and wont beable to tomorrow :( I have a dinner to go to at a friends house.
I actually got 4 eggs this week! Lol ill get more in march. Sounds like you have alot of baking to do! Or you can try selling them on craigslist!

We put a sign out at the end of the driveway "Fresh Eggs $2" when we don't feel like selling we turn the sign around. We live on a private road, but the neighbors stop by.

They are fast, that's for sure. I let them out this morning and he was very polite. My son was with me and he didn't attack him either. But I still don't trust him! lol

Mr. Blue was pretty polite this morning, thankfully. Still keeping a close eye on the jerk just in case he gets the Nasties again.

I'm either going to have DH put an ad on Craigslist or make a sign for the end of the driveway like charlie14 suggested. And nobody leaves Chateau Szajko (pronounced Psycho) without a dozen eggs! lol
I scrambled a whole dozen this morning...giving the leftovers to the Girls and Nuggets later and I'll bake some cookies this afternoon if I ever step away from this computer!

ANYWAY....have a great Super Bowl Sunday!

I found that if I feed them crackle corn, I throw it on the ground before I do anything else. They leave me alone so I can fill their feeder or clean the coop or collect eggs. It seems to help me! I don't trust the roosters at all!

I just got back from the grocery store and UGH, The lines are crazy! I should of known it was gonna be packed! But I forgot about the game today..I dont watch football really.
Anyways the ducks are extreamly happy! I filled up one of their kiddie pools yesterday, plus the rain today. Their in ducky heaven!

Later on this afternoon, as I was bringing them some breakfast leftovers, Mr. Blue charged at me again. I stamped my foot and he backed off but I'm pretty sure it's because he saw the scrambled eggs and strawberry tops and figured he'd better be nice. I'll try the cracked corn diversion tomorrow. He scares me!
