GOOD Afternoon Hudson Valley Peeps~

Thank you. We're all relieved we found Mizz Dingbat the Easter Egger too. I still want to know how she got into that window well with all the juniper covering it but she's not talkin'.

So I cleaned out The Girls' coop today. This winter was my first time using the deep litter method. The bedding was wet and smelly on the very bottom; I should have turned it more often this winter. After I finished, I sat in the run and inspected all the chickens~nobody has frostbite or mites so the DLM worked out well, although the clean up wasn't pretty.

Just sat down with a glass of wine. I'm glad I made a pot of beef stew and started a loaf of bread in the bread oven earlier or we'd be ordering pizza or Chinese food! I'm tired and hungry.

carousel86...Congratulations on the hatch!
chickengirl1193...I just joined a Facebook group called Hudson Valley Farm Swap (or something like that). There's a lot of people selling chickens. You might find something there.

Happy Funday Sunday

After the winter we had, we deserve this beautiful day!

Ciao for now~

Our deep litter w straw is going to be tilled straight into the garden. I will not be harvesting anything from that garden til Summer.

Question to the public...Where do you get your organic mash?
Hi Joanmcm,

I know zip, zero, zilch about organic mash, sorry!

If there was a market for dirty deep litter I think we'd all be millionaires. DH tilled a bunch into the garden Thursday and dumped 3 big loads into the woods across the road today...we'll scoop it out as we need it. I didn't want it piled on our property in case it started to smell, attract flies or entice our Rottweiler puppy to snack on it.

Oh my goodness such exciting stuff this weekend! Carousel congrats on the chicks, I'm holding my breath for next weekend. Lost EE found, yippy! I actually lost my cat overnight, he got himself locked in the garden shed and I got a few more gray hairs. Overhauled coop and chicken yard today my rooster seems back to normal after a very nasty spell. So.....happy happy happy
