Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

I'm sorry Charlie! I can't imagine what you when through Lexi, seeing that fox attacking your chickens. Do you know someone that traps, they usually trap free of charge to sell their fur. That fox will always come back, I hate to say it but you need to get rid of him. My neighbor finally called us back stating the it wasn't his dog. I told him that my son saw his dog attacking my chicken. Then he said he would pay for him. I told him that's not the point keep your dog out of my yard. I'm very attached to my chickens yes they give us eggs to eat but they are my pets too.

Good Afternoon~

I hope everyone is having a good day. I haven't stopped since I woke up this morning. I cleaned the family room and bathroom...colored my hair, started dinner, Project Laundry continues, and~ I finally cleaned out The Nuggets' coop...almost called in a Hazmat team for backup. OMG it was B-A-D.

:)l Glad you had such a nice day .... I have to finish the outdoor coop woodchip changeout. took the straw out a couple of weeks ago and need to finish it up. Their sleeping coop was done a couple of weeks ago including wiping everything down and sanding off their roost. It smells wonderful.

Looking forward to a nice weekend. A glass for me pls tonight.

LOL Thanks joan. I get a little excited when I've had a productive day ~
I absolutely LOVE how the coops smell after they're cleaned...the combination of fresh straw, wood and pine chips is so earthy. I have an obsession with smells..as long as they're not gross and disgusting, of course. I burn candles and incense almost constantly. It's a quirk.

Anyway...

What did you wipe everything down with? I use a homemade orange peel/white vinegar cleaner but was wondering what other peeps use?

I just rinse it with a wet rag. Not too much wood, my DH had the idea to line the coop with cheap linolium. Makes clean up a breeze.
That's a great idea! We have a sheet of vinyl flooring in one of the coops. It definitely makes cleaning the floor much easier. The other coop has a sheet metal "drawer floor" that pulls out so after it's swept out, the drawer can be rinsed off but the walls are wood in both coops so I just spray them with the orange vinegar cleaner to freshen them and open up the windows for them to dry. Thankfully the walls don't get pooped on. I sprinkle DE in all the crevices and hang herbs around to deter bugs. The clean freak in me wants to bleach everything but I know I can't. FreshEggsDaily.com has a lot of good ideas to clean and freshen the coops naturally.

Well I'm off to start the day but I know darned well I'll be back here or on FB at some point! Everyone is either sleeping or out for the day. It's nice to have some peace~ Don't know what to do with myself!
