Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Does anyone else have chickens who don't follow the flock? I have two that are always lost and separated from the others. The rooster is constantly calling after them, but they seem to never be paying attention then panic when they can't find the flock.

I have one or two that kind of go off on their own. I think it is sometimes dependent on breed and other times personality. I know my splash andalusian is a complete spaz at times and she just marches to a completely different drummer. My EE also sometimes is kind of doing her own thing. I do notice that when they are usually really far from everyone else they are about to lay.

Yep~ the big orpingtons are my outcasts. They're about 6 weeks younger than the rest of the girls and separate themselves all the time.

My Lav. Orps and my young SLW roo always hangout away from the group..but I think its because they where never raised with the flock..but I also have wyandotte hens that stray from the pack now and then..my oldest hen seems to like to be by her self somtimes

anyone use more than one brand of incubator?

I now use a Genesis 1588 hovabator...its amazing..keeps perfect temps and humidity! Hatching with it this year has seriously been awesome! Every egg I put in there hatched! I use to use a little giant..but after frying acouple $100 in eggs I bought off ebay, I had to buy a new incubator.
