Wow I've been busy! My daughter is 10, she sells to anybody she comes in contact with. She even made a deal with the pick your own orchard down the street.

I have a hen that is laying on the ground and not in the nesting box. Don't understand it, do anybody know why?

Carousel try putting wooden eggs in the nesting box. That worked for me. Are the boxes lower than the roosting bars?

Glad all is well ! I don't think I've ever seen an Audi Allroad. Google time! Where do you show rabbits?? Are you going to the Harvest Festival in New Paltz this weekend? 

 

I think I have a problem. While checking on the Girls today I noticed one of them was lethargic ~ sleeping but standing upright. No signs of an upper respiratory issue;  no mites, leg or foot problems. She took a few sips of Save-A-Chick and refused a scrambled egg. I put her in the brooder downstairs in the basement so I can keep an eye on her and check for funky poop. I checked her crop but it doesn't seem enlarged. She's one of two brown leghorns but we're only getting 1 white egg a day so I'm not sure if she's the one laying or not. How can you tell if they're egg bound? What do you think I should do?

I dont think ill be attending the festival..ill be in kingston most of the weekend, its my sisters bday tomorrow.
I dont know how to tell if a hen is egg bound..I know lots of people bring them to the vet for an xray. Her eyes and nose are clear? Possibly she ate somthing she wasnt suppose to?
You can try some poultry drench in her water for acouple days. And maybe give her alittle bit of olive oil straight into her mouth, just incase she has somthing stuck.

As far as I can tell, she never started laying so she can't be egg bound (or can she??) I tried olive oil, Save-A-Chick, scrambled egg, chicken and yogurt and some other stuff called Poultry Rx; so far, nothing has helped her. She ate some yogurt but refused the chicken and egg. How was your weekend?

No..her vent looks fine. She was out in the run with the rest of the girls for a bit today. I thought maybe she was feeling better but when I checked on them again, she was sleepy and keeping to herself. Tonight DH noticed her comb is flopped over to one side and it looks like it's turning black in spots. I had her separated from the rest of the flock last week but DH put her back in with the others (I wish he hadn't but it's too late now I suppose

) None of the others are showing any symptoms, thankfully (Xing my fingers). This particular chicken has never laid an egg so maybe it's not an illness and there's something else going on with her (?) Anyway...where did you put the gold fish?! The Hudson Valley Harvest Festival had ducks swimming in a little wooden caged-in shelter. I swear someday I'm going to NEED some ducks! They are so stinkin' CUTE !!!!

The black spots could just be dried blood...tue other chickens could have been picking on her sense she is sick. My guess would be she is egg bound...

I have a 55 gallon tank for winter that I have setup..so all the fish go in there! Anyone want some free Comet gold fish? I got a ton..they bred this summer..so I have a bunch of babies.
