Hi everyone. I'm from Plattekill. I have 11 two to four week old chicks (white leghorn, red something not sure exactly what yet, and white silkies), 1 silkie that hatched last night/early this morning (not sure what color she is yet, I'm thinking buff) and 3 eggs in the incubator due to hatch tomorrow. Oh, and I bought a white crested black polish roo but the woman I bought him from is going to hold him until my girls are big enough for him to go out with.
I've already met Lisa.. It's nice to meet the rest of you

Welcome!!! Im right up the road from you in Highland!!! I have 8 Silver laced wyandottes, 3 Silver Spangled Hamburgs and i use to have Lavender orpingtons but somthing got them the other night

Somthing took them right out of the coop...had to of been raccoons..no other birds where touched, just my lavs
All i found was alittle bit of feathers in the woods...no feathers in the run or coop, no blood or anything. I had 3 LO's but not anymore. Somthing was hungry for orpingtons that night!! i just find it hard to believe an animal got them...there would of been feathers everywhere in the coop and run, but the boyfriend has convinced me otherwise.

Over the 6ft fence and then went in the chicken door...thats my best guess. i had bought poultry netting for the top of the run but didnt get around to putting it up yet...so its my fault really.
But there still ahould have been more feathers...because the coons would have had to drag the chickens back over the fence.

Ugh..so frustrating. You can take every precaution possible and they'll still find a way in if they're persistent (and hungry) enough. So sorry

Very true! They just started to lay aswell! But tis the season for hungry animals! Iv added some locks to the coop doors now too.

Does anyone have 1-2 chicks they want to sell? Or does anyone want to split the 6 minimum purchase? I hatched one lonely silkie chick last week and I want to get her 1 or 2 friends so she's not alone for the next 6-8 weeks. I'm afraid if she grows up alone, she might not know how to interact with other chickens and she might get picked on when I put her in the coop with the older guys. I just can't get 6 more chicks.
My friend works at The Natural Pet Store in Gardiner.. she told me tonight that they have a good selection of chicks right now. I would love to buy a polish or maybe another silkie.
