Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

He sure is doing somthing! I was told that he is letting the hens know they need to sit on the eggs.
Wow, what a weekend!!! Thats why i do not let other dogs on my property!! 1, because my dogs hate other dogs (they are not socialized and i have to keep 3 of them seperate) and 2, you just never know whats going to happen.. My old landlord had a mini poodle and it killed one of my chickens!! Last time that dog came here!
Im so glad your chick is ok!!! Sounds like the dog was playing, and wasnt trying to hurt the chick. My dogs tend to get alittle to rough with the chickens but i totally trust my dogs with them.
I dont close my coop door at night..because my run is built like a tank now lol...if your positive your run is safe..than you should be ok.

YIKES.That must have been horrible. Did you witness the dog killing your chicken? Ugh I can't imagine!!
My DH just asked me "What are you going to do if one of the chickens get hurt or sick?" I said "I don't know...post it in BYC?" lol
I don't handle the creepy stuff well so I'm calling you

After this weekend, I'm thinking not letting other dogs on my property is probably a good idea! DD and her fiancé ADORE their dog but as my DH says, he really puts a spin on things around here. They play rough. As cute as it is, it's also chaotic. From the very beginning whenever our dogs came sniffing around the brooder I've told them"No, they're mine!" and they always walked away or just sat next to me wagging their tails while I was tending to the chicks. I'm confident my dogs won't hurt the chickens BUT at the same time, I'll never leave them alone together. DD's dog has a herding breed in him which is why he trapped the baby. He used to herd the goats so I should have known he'd eventually try to herd the chickens too!

TY! You've made me feel better about skipping their "tucking in" at night. So far the run and coop seem pretty secure. We haven't noticed evidence of a break-in attempt (yet) so I'm sure they'll be fine.

ANYWAY did your chicken take your rooster's hint? !! lol

I did not see the poodle kill it..i heard chicken yelling.saw the dog running from the back of my house..i went back there and there was my white leg horn hen. i dont think the dog ment it and i have no hard feelings towards it. It was never around chickens before. As soon as chickens start to run away, it turns into a chase game for some dogs.

Your chickies will be fine! Dont let your husband worry you! As long as the MIL checks on them, they should be fine.
My SSH hen kinda sits on her eggs...shes like a half broody! Shell sit on them all night, then once in awhile durring the day. So i leave her 2 egg to sit on.
Well im off to work! Thank goodness the weather is going to be nice tomorrow on my day off!!
Hope all is well!!!

Haha the BF woke me up at 5:45am this morrning with coffee!! Lmao was planning on sleeping in!!
How many days before your trip!?!!

Awww that was nice of him!!

Just think of all the things you'll get accomplished today??? OR better yet, take a nice long nap later!
DD has to be at work at 6:30 on weekends and I get up at 4:30 everyday for work so I never sleep in. If I don't have to drive her (rare) or if I'm off and sleep past 7:00 AM I feel like I slept in.

Leaving Saturday. Received my daughter's passport in the mail yesterday so we're good to go! Now to figure out a way to smuggle some wine past security (without getting caught....!!!) Sometimes the cruise's wine lists are good or really, really bad and there's nothin' worse than a $50 bottle of bad wine. Soooo I bought two 3L boxes of Turning Leaf merlot which I've had before so I know it won't be bad. I was thinking of giftwrapping the boxes. My son-in-law-to-be said "That's ingenious." It can be viewed as ingenious or downright pathetic ~ !! Either way, I'm going to give it a shot lol

Anyway, there's still SO much to do. I'm glad I took Friday off. I still need to clean the house (for the house sitter's sake!) and finish some last-minute shopping and laundry, of course. And I really should give my mini schauzer a bath and a haircut this afternoon. He looks homeless.

Hope your day off is good so far! It's supposed to be a nice day

Im not getting anything done today, its cold and raining :(..i do have to bring my dog to tue vet at 2 tho..thats the excitment for the day i guess.
Glad your DD got her passport! She must be excited!
That is such a great idea!! I would of never to have thought to gift wrap the wine!! Hopefuly you can get it by them. Who the heck wants to pay $50 for crap wine! I only drink wine lol and thats once in a blue moon. awhile back i bought my mom a $250 bottle for her birthday, thank goodness she liked it, cause i dont know anything about wine lol
Dont forget to take lots of pics on your trip!

Yeeeikes~ $250. I hope she enjoyed every drop! My ex was a drunk so I didn't drink much at all (somebody had to be sober for the kids LOL) When I kicked him out I discovered wine. I'd love to build a wine cellar someday but that's a dream. A full wine rack (and my chickens) make me a happy girlie~

And thank you..I'm glad she got her passport too! I was sweatin' that one.

I thought today was supposed to be a nice day with the exception of some showers this afternoon. Wrong! I hope it was a nice relaxing day anyway and that your dog is ok and it's just a checkup.

Going home to get some things done. I will not go visit the chickens...I will not go visit the chickens....

My dog is fine..just a checkup and to check some bumps he has on him..all ok tho! The vets is getting so expensive tho!
Haha go check on your chickens!! Im sure they would love the company.

Glad your dog is ok!
I went home and gave my dog a haircut. It looks like it was done by someone who has no clue how to give a dog a haircut but at least he doesn't look homeless anymore LOL.
I was going to give him a bath but opted to sit with the chickens instead!

I know what you mean about vet fees. Both my dogs are due for checkups/shots and I'm procrastinating. My vet is reasonable but it'll still be a few hundred dollars. Last time I was there I noticed a sign at the reception desk saying Eggs for Sale. She must have chickens!!
