Ugh...Here I am! It's way too humid for my likin'. And....I have horrible news....just haven't felt like talking today...........something killed all 6 of our ducks last night. My whole house has been in tears ...hubby broke my heart. We don't know what it was....right in under the coop we're thinking...a bit of an indent near one back beam. No blood and the 7 chickens are fine....scared acting though. The coop was closed up. ????? We buried them. Sorry, Lexi and Lisa.....I hope I'll feel chatty tomorrow. RIP Philip, Kowalski, Skipper, Sugar, Cube and Soup. =(

How old are the silkies? They're adorable! They have a lot of attitude in those little faces, don't they?
I have a bantam silkie and she's much smaller than the others. But I wonder if that's because she's a bantam or because ALL silkies are small whether they're a bantam or not. I'd love to get Rapunzel a friend but I'm afraid to introduce a newbie right now because of the way the girls are treating those poor Orpingtons. They're brutal ! I may ask my DH to go over to the neighbors to ask them if they'd mind a little rooster noise. IF he's willing to do that and they say it's ok, we'll keep him. Mr. Blue the Roo is growing on me and I know for sure Don wants to keep him too!

How are your chickens and ducks doing in this weather? Mine are panting and holding their wings out. I'm going to freeze some water in milk cartons for them to sit next to...hopefully this will help cool the poor things off a little tomorrow. I hate humidity. Is this crap going to last through the weekend?

I must go get ready to go to my DD's awards ceremony. So proud of that girlie girl ~

The Silkies are 1 year or atleast thats what she said. How old is your silkie?
I dont undertsand why they are picking on your Orps! Are the orps younger?
Everyone is panting like crazy here! I pulled the hose over earlyer and sprayed them. It was very enjoyable on my end! the ducks love it, but the chickens arnt to keen on being sprayed! But i bet they felt better after! Freezing water in cartons is a great idea! I do that for my rabbits but never thought it would work for the chickens lmao.

Ugh...not good. It's amazing how one idiot can cause so much aggravation. Rt. 9 is a PITA.

My silkie is about 12 weeks old...she was 1 of 6 we got from The Natural Pet Center in Gardiner in early March a few days after getting the original 6 from Tractor Supply. We got the Orps on April 20th so I guess they could be considered a lot younger than the other girls (?). The whole pecking order thing is pretty fascinating.

LOL I sprayed the chickens too!! They *cluck-clucked* and ran away from me. I can't take credit for the freezing water in cartons idea. I think I may have read it here or on some other chicken site.

So I'm excited.. Getting 2 more silkies today I already have 6.. 5 white and 1 buff, but I'm getting 2 blues this afternoon.

I got a white crested polish 2 weeks ago. I got another one with her that is supposidly a white polish but I don't think so.. She looks just like my white leghorn did when she was smaller.

What do you guys think?

My first set of silkies came from TSC and I hatched Chickie. The 2 I'm getting today are from somebody I met on here.. I'm actually waiting for her now. I'm not sure where she's from but in meeting her in Rosendale so she can't be far from there.
I've been good.. Loving this weather!!
Nothing really new and exciting, but that's not a bad thing ;-)

Hi Lexi, Lisa and Serenity Lane (sorry I'm new and don't know your name =) ... Laura here).
We are all still feeling rather miserable here. It's amazing how attached we get to our birds. We plan on pouring concrete down the sides of the house itself. A lot of people are saying that a weasel is probably the culprit? I barely slept a wink last night...listening.
I see that there is a farm animal tail gate kind of sale being advertised at the Tractor Supply in Armenia, Dutchess County tomorrow morning. I'm not familiar with where that is though. I'm thinking of getting more ducklings...but I only want females and I didn't see much about them being sexed. I may go through McMurrays again. I'm not sure.
In this hot weather, my girls are enjoying or left over watermelon. They can always make me smile.

My little comedians rest here. I'll check back later....I always miss something I meant to say or answer ... LOL
