Huge Black Snake came thru Metal Roof Ridge

So sorry you had to find this in the hen house. Glad you got it tho. My outside cat caught one for me a couple of weeks ago. It was small ( i am glad) , i had to do the dirty deed myself. You will find out when your babies are threatened you get brave. I am scared to death of snakes but when i seen that sucker my love for my babies kicked in and i got er done. Hope you don't find any more. Take care.

LOL i did that once! Thats when my dh bought some snake shot for the 22 pistol! Destroys the snake with one kill shot but the pellets in the bullet are so small that they dont damage the wood at all...and a lot safer for any ducks or chickens nearby! Works great!

After something got under my metal roof, I'm working on reinforcing it. Something I'm going to try is that expanding foam insulation (comes in a squirt can) all around the roof edge. It will fill the gaps, and it acts as an adhesive. I hope it works the way I plan!

The spray foam stuff works amazingly well. We used it on another project, and I was skeptical at first. You spray it in / on the area, and it expands then hardens. We had a small hole in our home's cinder block basement foundation, but it was a few days until the house builder could come out and patch it and we were expecting rain. My husband grabbed a can, sprayed until the area was full and then propped a rock against it so that it would expand towards the inside and not poke out. When the builder came out a few days later, he almost couldn't pry the rock away from the wall. If you use this stuff, remember that a little goes a long way, and you may want to make it a 2 person job (one spraying, one on the other side helping to contain / clean up the mess)

If you use the spray foam, will you still have another way to ventilate the coop?

My Husband used the spray foam on ours last night. I think I get enough ventilation from the windows. Thanks for all the understanding and support I have rec. about this snake. I now have rat shot also, although it was so close to my chicks I would have been afraid to use it there.
I hope the foam works!
