Huge Chicken Coop

Perhaps we can word things a little kinder, I think we all want the same thing here, safe, happy, healthy flocks. We live in different areas with different concerns. Can we learn from eachother without being ugly to eachother? Hopefully everyone won't hate me now. Cause it's just my opinion, like everyone else.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU @Ursuline Chick! Look....I don't use chicken wire, but I'm not goin to cram my desire down someone else's throat or hate on them for what they are using. I think it's important that those of us who have lost chickens to predators, tell what we've done to keep them out. But there are probably quite a few people on here who use chicken wire and have not had a problem. I just can't use it.

I agree, not my first choice, but I live where I live, not where someone else lives. So, why can't we brain storm and each use the information that is best for each?

I definitely support hardware cloth. The 1/2" is small enough to keep out mice and snakes, tough enough to thwart the smartest raccoon, squirrel, cat, and strong enough to keep out the bobcats, mountain lions, and bears. (I love mountain life!). The chicken wire that is currently available just couldn't do all those things. I would say, though, research the predators in your area. If you are urban farming, you may not need that robust a system. Best of luck!

Leighe, yes they are poles, a hole is drilled in the wood and a short metal pin is inserted between the two pieces. This is the top of it. The plain wire keeps it tight.

Hardware cloth cannot keep out a bear, it is not that strong. Maybe it could keep out a cub, but not an adult bear.
