The man that we bought our chickens from told us that he had one who laid humungous eggs and wasn't sure which one. So he said that we might get her. We've had our 5 girls for about 3ish weeks now and up to this point have gotten some nice x-large sized eggs. Some, just barely fitting into the egg carton. But never anything this huge!!!

This first pic is of my son holding a regular sized egg & the ginormous egg.

This second pic is of me holding the ginormous egg.

I had some black sexlinks, and they are sure good layers! Was your egg a double or triple yolker?

Very nice run you made there!

Thanks for sharing your pictures!

Yeeeeooooch!! I bet she screamed when she laid that one!!

Very nice run you've built for your girls. If you're open to a little bit of free advice, might I suggest that you provide them with some shade on one end of the run? A simple tarp will be much appreciated by your hens as we head into the summer months. It also gives them a nice dry area to scratch around in when the rains come again.

Welcome to BYC by the way. If you ever have questions regarding your new little flock, this is the place to come. And even if we don't have a ready answer for you, you'll certainly find words of encouragement to help you over the rough spots.

Right now I have 5 hens of unknown type and one black star laying-I've alwaysed noticed one egg significantly larger than the others...

I love black sexlinks/stars-great layers & full of spunk! I mad sure one of my 3 new chicks is a black star...

Thank you very much for the advice about the tarp. :) I had a few other ladies who are experienced with chickens suggest the same exact thing to me a few days ago. I will do that for them soon since I know the hot weather is coming. I was also told to put either a wire top over the entire thing or something else so that no hawks get them. I will have to have hubby help me with that. We have some wire leftover and if that'll keep them safer, I'm happy to do it for them.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum too. I've found lots of great information here already. :)

My husband and I also have black sexlinks! They are very entertaining and yes very good layers, we have 7 of them and 5 Brahmas. One of the Brahmas is a rooster. Out of the 11 layers we get 10 eggs everyday. We do have one black one that likes to fly over the fence and explore her surroundings but she always comes back home

That egg I do have to say is huge! We have gotten some pretty big ones as well but this one takes the cake!
