huge growth on bantam leg

My best guess is it was attacked by an animal and it healed abnormally. How did it start? ...was is a small growth that kept growing in size or you just noticed that huge bulge one day? I would clean the area with warm water and soap and disinfect.

Keep her separate in a clean pen with clean shavings and put her on a little antibiotic maybe. That looks pretty bad.

Thankyou shannon. I have separated her now as the others are attacking her and she looked so miserable and she could not get anything to eat. She is happier today after a good meal and some peace and is almost bright eyed again.

Can you give antibiotic by mouth? (or beak?) we have a powder we put one her leg when it bleeds from her pecking. I have now separated her as you say and on clean straw. Yes we noticed the bulge one day and began to bathe it and then it just grew and grew. We stopped the bathing as she was getting so fed up with us but I think I would like to try it again. Thankyou very much for your time and your lovely forum.

Yes, I would too.. it looks a lot like some of the pictures I've seen on here of really severe cases.

I've dealt with severe scaly leg mite and it doesn't usually make a growth in one spot like that. It is usually spread out over the feet and legs. Also you cannot "see" it grow daily. When you cut it did it bleed?

o i am so sry i hope the chickens leg heals soon that breaks my heart to see other chickens pecked on

In that caae I would think you could either remove it or pare it down some...maybe someone with more surgical experience will chime in here. If you could get some of the inside out and pull the edges in and sew them or glue them shut maybe that would take some of the weight off although I guess there is the possibility it could re-grow.
