The chick has been lifting the shell of the egg and part of the bits of shell fell off, revealing the membrane, it is dry. I put some water on it and it dried within 5 minutes, what should I do?

I've had this happen before but as much as you wish to help try not to unless it's the last resort.....when this happened to me I used a q-tip and wet the dry exposed membrane then I took a wash cloth wet it with warm water and put in the incubator to help with the humidity.....if that doesn't help within an hour or so then I'd just help it hatch.

Here are the pics of what the progress is and this egg is on day 20.

you could wrap the egg in a moist paper towel. i also heard of putting a little bacetracin on a qtip and apply to tge membrane which can help prevent it from drying because it's gel like in consistency, unlike water. hope tgat helps and good luck!

Usually if the membrane is white, it's OK. It's when it dries, shrivels and goes a light brown colour that you have a problem. What is your humidity in the incy?

I'd leave it alone and keep an eye on it. The membrane does dry and become brittle so the chick can get out of it. 20 days is a bit early but looks like things are progressing well. Try not to open the incubator as you let humidity and heat out exposing the chicks as they hatch. Good luck!
